What: MENDING A TORN FABRIC, WRAPPING A COARSE SHROUD
Presenter: Michael James, “Dear Judy” author
Part of the 10th annual speaker series for
Begin With the End in Mind

Sponsored by the UNO Department of Gerontology
When: Friday, February 23, 2024, 1:00 – 2:00 PM
Where: Thompson Alumni Center, University of Nebraska–Omaha. 6705 Dodge Street, Omaha, Nebraska

Michael James and his late wife Judith’s lives were centered around fabric: real
threads and fibers obviously, but also the metaphorical threads with which they wove
a strong, four-decades-long marriage. When her 2009 Alzheimer’s diagnosis tore at that
tightly-woven relationship, they worked hard and with imagination to mend the tear,
to hold on to the best quality of life for the time remaining. Michael will read
from his memoir and discuss some of the ways by which they each came
to terms with their frayed end zone and all of its implications.
